Latest Obsession: Nails of Another Color

As a kid I painted my nails to match my friendship bracelets. Pink. Blue. Pink with blue glitter. Now my go-to color is a gothic shade of red, beachy coral or clear gloss. My grown up bucket of shades bores me. I want blue, electric blue.

At my local Walgreens, I found only two potential shades, Revlon’s “Midnight Affair” and Sally Hansan’s “Flash.” This Sally Hansen polish sucked. The color looked promising inside the bottle, but on my nail it reminded me of Justin Timberlake circa N’SYNC stardom. Plus, it pulled off like sunburnt skin.Revlon is a nice brand of polish. It glides on thick and doesn’t chip…for at least the first day. “Midnight Affair” was actually just “Navy.” I needed more of “Lady Gaga on the French Riviera Affair.” I tried mixing the two colors for the perfect combo of sturdy polish and electric pop, but they rejected each other in a sort of oil-in-water imbalance, leaving my polish full of craters.

The darker shade is growing on me. It is demure, sophisticated and easy to wear on a daily basis. Plus, it looks great with gold jewelry. Still, I’ve got to get to Sephora.
