Trendspotting: Breton Stripes

A model walks the runway at the balmain fashion show.

All aboard, the Breton stripe is here and better than ever. No longer made just for sailors nor the nautical trend, the Breton stripe allows women wear horizontal stripes without the harshness of looking wider.

Originating from Brittany, a French region that lays in a peninsula between the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel, this style represents classic French style and can be worn best loosely tucked into a pair of dark slacks or black jeans, or flowy as a mini dress. So leave your captain’s hat and boat behind, the Breton stripe is here for fall.

Shop the look: Maje striped cotton dress; Balmain striped sequin top F/W 2009; BDG Breton stripe blouse; Kate Moss for Top Shop.
