My favorite new resource for projects is ThreadBanger.com. I heart ThreadBanger because they provide many categories of projects for clothing and decorative items, most of which are green-oriented, and encourage the use of recycled materials.
Their easy-to-follow site explores step by step demonstrations via quirky online tutorials. They also include interviews with emerging designers, and industry professionals, coverage on craft and fashion events around the world, and “how to’s†requested by viewers as well as projects viewers take over themselves.
ThreadBanger even points out the degree of difficulty for each undertaking and their interactive site also has a blog, forum, newsletter and contests. Some of my favorite ideas include the fusion of plastic bags into a lap-top case, the making of a dress out of old sweatshirts, and the creation of a DIY lace lampshade.
Their newest video demonstration features the hand painting of fabrics by Project Runway alum Kenley Collins. I have to admit I was initially drawn to the video to see what kooky antics Kenley may have come out with, but watching her paint fabric was as mesmerizing as when I watched Bob Ross paint when I was a kid. You can view the video for yourself above.
