How To: Wear A Canadian Tuxedo

Otherwise known as head-to-toe denim, most people avoid the “Canadian Tuxedo†like the plague. We steer clear of the look, most frequented at just about every rural State Fair. If you aren’t familiar, it goes something like this: faded denim jacket and cut off short-shorts equipped with a fanny pack, mullet and something fried on a stick.

However, the denim jacket is making resurgence (a la fashionable celeb Rachel Bilson), so why not wear your denim jacket with jeans? Why not pay homage to our neighbors from the north?

Here are three tricks to help you pull off this look:

  1. Mix the washes of your denim, and vary the proportions of the pieces you are wearing.
  2. Modernize the look with updated shapes and styles such as jumpers, high-waist shorts, vests, big shoulders and detailing such as studding.
  3. For the finishing touch, throw on a cummerbund or a men’s tie.
    Hot denim trends of the moment include, deconstructed skinny jeans in a light wash and denim cut-offs worn over footless, opaque tights, just make sure to avoid the fried cheese on a stick.
