Vivian Maier: Chicago's Original Street Style Photog
by admin
October 15, 2009
I was recently introduced to the work of Vivian Maier,a photographer who roamed the streets of Chicago -from the 50s-70s- snapping shots of the city’s interesting sites and people. You will be blown away by the interesting details and candidness of her work, especially when you think about the time that these were taken.
The original street style photog’s work was discovered at an auction here in Chicago, where she lived for 50 years of her life. Her discovered work includesover 40,000, mostly medium format, black and white negatives.
You can view the rest of Maier’s photos for at: vivianmaier.blogspot.com.

thank you for introducing me to this photographer! her work is amazing. her story and work remind me of gary stochl, who we published a few years ago! you can see it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Stochl
keep up the good work!
I love her photos, both as art and as historical documents of a Chicago we’ll never see. Her work is very similar to another Chicago street photog Gary Stochl. They both roamed the streets around the same time and both were removed from the artistic community. Yet both have left us with moments in Chicago history that are beautiful and moving. I like that vivian concentrated more on the detail in people and what they wore. Gary focused more on people’s relationship with the city around them.
