Midwest Music: Volcano Choir

I first caught wind of Bon Iver (otherwise known as Justin Vernon) when he visited Minneapolis’ “Rock the Garden†fest two years ago. Since then Vernon has been working on a new band Volcano Choir with members of Collections of Colonies of Bees.
With the “assembly of Wisconsinites†in Volcano Choir, the backwoods folksy vibe of their music has been tweaked and the almost somber and sparse formula that Bon Iver has come to be known for has been ditched in favor of a more upbeat sound.
Volcano Choir’s album “Unmap†will be released on September 22nd but in the meantime take a listen to their first single “Island, IS.â€
Mark my words, next summer you will see Drew Barrymore rocking out to Volcano Choir at 2010’s Bonnaroo.
