I Love TV: "The Day Before" Captures a Different Side of NYFW

Bi-annually I look forward to the Sundance Channel and their screenings of fashion films and documentaries in honor of Fashion Week. Last spring it was a line-up of “Qui êtes vous, Polly Maggoo?,†“Lagerfeld Confidential†and “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton.†This year my favorite cable network is showing the series entitled “The Day Before†which features the same documentary filmmaker (Loic Prigent) that captured “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton†as well as “Signe Chanel.â€
The series focuses around the final (and likely hectic) 36 hours prior to the big day where fashions hit the runway to be devoured by a sea of press, buyers, celebrities and socialites. Each evening from September 9th- 12th showcases a different designer behind the scenes with their collection. The designers featured are Sonia Rykiel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Proenza Schouler, and Karl Lagerfeld with Fendi.
So now you also can take-in an aspect of fashion week from the comfort of your own home. This time you can do it while still breaking-in that new pair of heels, but possibly while enjoying the company of the pint of ice cream you wouldn’t be eating if you were at the tents in Bryant Park, the Milk studios in the Meatpacking District, or Le Carrousel du Louvre in Paris.
