The first word that comes to mind when entering Two64 is bright. Bright clothes, bright lights and bright attitudes.
Thenewer urban wear clothing store opened on the corner of 13th and P inLincoln a little over six months ago. I’ve walked by the place about amillion times, but have never gone inside.
On a chillyWednesday night, I was able to meet the owners and their friends whilethey were getting ready for a photo shoot to promote some of thestore’s fashions. Everyone was choosing what outfit they wanted to wearwhile chatting about the store, skateboarding and what was going on therest of the night.
The store has made a huge transformation, going from Wright’s Jewelers to the hip boutique that now houses stylesyou really can’t find anywhere else in the Midwest.
The storemostly caters to men, but upstairs some women’s apparel is available.Partners Matt Johnson and Devon Seacrest generally order only one ofeach style of T-shirt in each size to keep the store fresh, and also soyou won’t see someone else wearing the same unique shirt.
“Mostpeople are used to there only being stores like the Gap, Abercrombieand American Eagle,†said Seacrest. “We’re trying to pull people outfrom their comfort zones.â€
Johnson and Devon Seacrest opened thestore when both saw a lack of men’s streetwear offering brands likeAlife, 10.Deep and Crooks & Castles. These are the clothes theywear and their friends wear, but couldn’t find anywhere except online.
Two64(named after Johnson’s daughter, who was born on Feb. 6, 2004) is fardifferent from other clothing stores in the Lincoln area. The store isinviting and really seems more like a hangout than a retail space. Thewalls have graffiti-like artwork and even a plasma TV with a Wii set upnear the front of the store.
Seacrest and Johnson may be new to the retail game, but they fit right in the downtown scheme of things.
“Wejust couldn’t see ourselves anywhere else other than downtown,†saidSeacrest. “We are kind of an urban clothing center and to not bedowntown and in a mall would be hypocritical.â€
Johnson andSeacrest may not have much experience on the business side of things, but everyone has something to contribute. Seacrest has a background inbusiness and economics, friend and co-worker Tiffany Harder has abackground in marketing, and Johnson is a “clothing connoisseur,†asSeacrest described him.
Seacrest considers Two64 to be a “kindof a grassroots start up,†with friends helping out any way they can topromote and get the word out about the fashion now offered in Lincoln.
“Whatwe offer here is the stuff we like to wear and also brands that aren’tin Lincoln, Omaha or even in the Midwest,†said Seacrest. “The peoplewho shop here are individualists and anyone that wants to stand out ina crowd.â€
