Latest Obsession: Lipstick Queen Lips

Two lipstick shades sitting next to each other.

In the 1920s women began pairing their flapper dresses, bobbed haircuts and cigarettes with ruby red lips as an act of emancipation. Into the 1950s women’s styles transitioned into a more sweet, lady-like look, but the lip-prints on their cigarettes were still defined in crimson. During this era a woman wouldn’t be caught without her red lipstick, and now it seems most women wouldn’t be caught wearing it.

Poppy King is not one of those women. Since the age of seven King has been obsessed with lipstick, and her line, Lipstick Queen, is at the top of my list.

King reintroduced her line of 10 shades, which come in two textures—the matte Sinner and sheerer Saint—in 2007. Now her company has expanded to produce lip linear, three types of lip gloss and one universal shade. She is extremely passionate about her product, and it shows.

Dramatic and sophisticated in its nature, red lipstick grabs attention and requires attitude and confidence to pull off. As a statement maker, red lips are the perfect accessory for a night out, and if you are daring enough, the everyday.

  • This is wonderful! I actually just announced last night that I am taking the plunge into red lipstick(outside of the house). We’ll see if it really happens though.

That packaging is so pretty, too!
