Who Is the Hipster of the Decade?

By: Monica Dimperio

Gawker wants to put the whole "hipster" thing to rest and in order to do so they are taking a vote on who wore the title the best this decade.

On the list:
- Kari Ferrell: The Hipster Grifter
- Gavin McInnes: Co-founder of Vice Magazine
- Carles: The non-face behind HipsterRunoff.com
- Paul Sevigny: DJ, Brother of Chloe.
- Dash Snow(RIP): Photographer
- Dov Charney: American Apparel CEO.
- The MisShapes: DJ trio.
- The Williamsburg Hair Man: Some guy that you'd only know if you lived in New York/read Gawker a lot.
- Blipsters: Black Hipsters

If you wore your pants tight and had your finger on the pulse these past 10 years you should know most of these names. So what do you think??

My vote is for Dov Charney. He helped create a complete lifestyle brand for the Hipster subculture with his Deep V's and racy ads.  Basically, if American Apparel didn't exist, what would hipsters have worn for the past 5 years. I think that thought alone might sway some opinions. Though, a lot of people already disagree. Carles from Hipster Runoff has 39% of the votes.

Beauty Mark: Lash Out - All The Tips and Tricks You Need to Apply Fake Eyelashes

By: Nicole James

December 24th, 2009

Desktop-2

It’s the holidays which also happens to be "fake eyelash season" for me. So what if you’re only going to your aunt and uncle’s ranch home in Elk Grove Village to have a belch-off with your dad’s brother? Glamour is glamour in any suburb. I’ve talked to a lot of ladies that think fake lashes are hard to apply and they can be if you don’t have the right tools.

Here’s everything you need to get them perfect...

1. Placement Kit: If you wear fake lashes from time to time, an application kit is worth purchasing. The rounded stand lets you place the strip of lashes down so you can grab them with the applicator while they’re curved in the shape of your eye.  I’ve had zero problems applying lashes after getting my hands on this.

Try: Sephora Lash Placement Kit, $10

2.Adhesive: The trick with adhesive is to pour it along the band of lashes and let it sit for 15 to 30 seconds before applying.  This will allow the glue to become tacky so the lashes stick faster.  Also, if you’re using a clear adhesive, it goes on white and takes a few minutes to actually turn clear.  Be patient.

Try: Andrea Modlash Adhesive ($4), available in both clear and dark; Shu Uemura, $8.50.

3. Fake Lashes: Fake lashes come in three different sizes: individual, demi, and full. Lately, I’ve been all about individual lashes, which come in small clusters as opposed to a full strip. All you need is three of them along the outside of your eyes for an extra pop. Another style is the demi lash or a half lash strip. They are great when you want something natural. Apply these by starting from the middle of the eye and move toward the outer corner. Demi's look perfect topped with a cat eye eyeliner. Since it is the holidays/fake eyelash season, I recommend going all out with a full strip. MAC is a great place to look, they have a large variety of stunning lashes.

Try: VOLUME - Andrea Permalash Individual Lashes ($3); NATURAL - Ardell’s Accent Lashes ($3.50); DRAMA - Various MAC sets ($13);  ECCENTRIC - Illamasqua’s Limited Edition Birthday Lashes ($40).

A Few More Tips:
- Make sure the lashes fit your eye. Place the lash strip along your eye and cut off the excess hanging off the outer corner.
- Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara before gluing the lashes on, it will help adhere the fake eyelashes to your real ones.
-Finish off the look by carefully going over your eyeliner and mascara again to make sure everything is cohesive.

Remember girls, fake lashes aren’t just for drag queens.  I recommend starting with some individual lashes to get the hang of it and working your way up.
