While stuck in one of the coldest winters, (isn’t it?) we can at least peak forward to spring with a preview of 2009 fashion. Supplying the preview, ironically, is Pringle of Scotland. One of fashion’s oldest companies most famously known for their knitwear and argyle patterns, Pringle’s Spring/Summer Collection for 2009 is surprisingly warm and youthful. Ever since creative direction of the brand was taken over by Clare Waight Keller in 2005, their conceptual design has branched out to new audiences; struck by a playful modernity.
For a company once worn by the old glamour of Grace Kelly and Jean Simmons, Pringle of Scotland’s SS09 Collection is bright, young, and eclectic. The dresses look like canvases splashed with island colors of blues, greens, pinks, and purples. In a homage to its longevity, the luminosity is tempered with sedate navy blue, white, and grey tones. Personally, I think the fusion of young and old is flattering to the design. The textures are identifiable with being comfortable in your own skin and wearing individuality with a relaxed stride.
Plus, look out for the UK name in the near-future. The company just named Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof, and Lydia Hearst as the new campaign darlings for Spring and Summer. In prediction, these British indie style stars will put a younger spotlight on the brand giving it the modish nod it deserves. Beloved Vogue Photographer Steven Meisel is shooting the girls, so expect an entertaining result. The photos hit magazine pages in March.
