Creatures of the Wind at NYFW SP13

NYFW Creatures of the Wind, Spring 2013

Kicking off NYFW with a bang, was Chicago’s own, Creatures of the Wind. The Cubs, go-figure, have been losing lately, so this was just the news we needed to restore our Chi-town pride.
Designers, Shane Gabier and Chris Peters presented their first runway show today at Milk Studios, after past seasons of presentations. After snagging a runner-up title for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion fund last fall, and completing a successful collaboration with J.Crew this summer, Creatures of the Wind is rapidly making a name for themselves. All this attention led to an impressive lineup at their show, a front row including Vogue’s Lynn Yaeger and Hamish Bowles, and Paper Mag’s Mickey Boardman.
Their Spring ’13 collection seemed more crisp and polished then past seasons, but still upheld their quirky and playful vibe that we’ve come to love. Overall we adored their menswear-inspired silhouettes and boxy collared tops, with hints of 60s femininity via full skirts and dainty embellishments. Definitely wouldn’t mind flaunting a couple pieces from the collection, but we might just pass on the hairstyle. Bobby pins gone wrong, but fashion done oh-so-right.
