Editorial Intern

The MidWasteland has a unique voice that keeps us TWO steps ahead of the rest. We’re seeking an aspiring fashion/lifestyle journalist to assist with editorial for our Chicago division. Interns will be expected to research content, fact-check, copy-edit, trend report, conduct interviews, pitch and translate (when applicable).
A typical workday includes drafting three to four posts for revision, coordinating the Editorial calendar, researching new collections, ‘must-have’ items and Chicago happenings for potential coverage, and interviewing up-and-coming designers and trendsetters via phone and in-person. The Editorial Intern will be the right-hand to our Editor-in-Chief. Socializing and self-starter skills are essential
for this position.
The Editorial Intern will be expected to work 12-15 hours per week.

Photography Intern

Think you have The MidWasteland’s eye for style? We’re currently looking for a few talented fashion
photographers to take the streets of Chicago by storm. We are known for providing engaging portraits
of trendsetters from the West Loop to Wicker Park, so if you have a portfolio that speaks to our style, we want
you.
Photographers are expected to meet with the Editorial Team twice a week to discuss photos and
Editorial Calendar requirements. While most of the work will be done on a flexible schedule, we
expect 10-15 photos submitted for review weekly. This schedule usually amounts to 2-3 shoot days
per week at 3 hours. Photographers must also be on-hand to shoot pre-scheduled events and
exclusive interviews with musicians and various trendsetters around Chicago.

Video Intern

KNOW how to tell a story through video? Have an interest in fashion, music, and Chicago lifestyle? We’re looking for a Pro at Final Cut who can create short video clips that tap into the heart of our trendsetters’ stories. As video content is becoming key to online media and The MidWasteland brand, you will be expected to cut ten video clips per week that range from 60 seconds to two minutes in length. You must be familiar with cutting documentary style footage, and prior experience working with online video content for an established media entity is a plus.
The Videographer/Video Editor Intern will be expected to work 12-15 hours per week.
