CrossFit Games Aired on ESPN2

Did any of you out there watch the CrossFit Games on ESPN2 through your cable tv satellite provider? Never heard of CrossFit before? Basically, it’s a workout program that varies every single day, utilizing disciplines such as sprinting, olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and gymnastics just to name a few. Aside from the health benefits that occur through these variations, they also keep the workouts fun and interesting.

That’s why, since 2007, all the top CrossFitters in the world have come together to find out who truly is the fittest man and woman on earth. Starting at the Castro family ranch and now on a much grander scale at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, the CrossFit Games have evolved into a big spectator sport. It’s now pretty much the Olympics for this upcoming sport.

In 2010, the Games already made some waves as it was broadcasted live for the first time through an internet stream, and in July 2011, in addition to the normal stream, there was coverage by ESPN3.com. Due to popular demand, the CrossFit Games were aired on special primetime slots on ESPN2. Ever since, the whole world has been talking.

There has recently been a surge in new member signups at CrossFit gyms all over the world. Social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook have been blowing up with praise and talk of newcomers wanting to get into this sport.

This does mean that in a short amount of time this sport will be growing faster than ever. Everyday people like Games winners Rich Froning, Jr., and Annie Thorisdottir are starting to become household names. What was once an underground health and fitness movement is easing its way into the mainstream. A lot of this is because of Reebok’s involvement in the CrossFit Games and with the CrossFit brand itself.

When watching the Games on ESPN2, didn’t you just want to workout then and there? Were you inspired by the fitness levels of these elite athletes? Do you want to get into that kind of shape as well? The truth is that many of these athletes were not in shape all their lives. Many admit to being overweight only a few years ago or barely being able to doing pushups. So maybe one day you can see yourself at the CrossFit Games.

That’s the beauty of the sport of CrossFit. It’s universally accessible and scalable. You don’t have to start out doing such complex movements or lifting as much weight as the guys and girls do on TV. Instead, you can start out with more basic exercises at lighter weights to ease you into the “Rx” or “prescribed” workouts designed by the professionals.

Regardless, the CrossFit Games on ESPN2 have inspired the world to become healthier and fitter. Maybe next year the Games will be aired live on ESPN2 through your cable TV satellite provider.
