A red background with a black border.

The soul singer is quickly proving that her star is headed for a power surge when her new album, The Electric Lady, drops this Tuesday. Here are five super-charged reasons we can’t wait to press play.

1. SHE RAN THE RUNWAY AT NYFW
Even without stepping foot onto the catwalk she made a presence at Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2014 fashion show. Standing off in the background singing both new and old songs – while swarms of gorgeous prints strutted past – all ears in the house, including those of It Girls Olivia Palermo and Zosia Mamet, were on her.

2. YOU CAN FRAME THE COVER ART
When an artist we like has a new album coming out the first thing we do is check Spotify to see if it’s available. You can still do that with The Electric Lady BUT…you’ll be missing out on a big part of what makes this album so great. The cover art, done by up-and-coming artist, Sam Spratt, is spectacular. Peep it and tell us you don’t want to run out and get the vinyl and a record frame.
3. SHE MAKES MENSWEAR LOOK COOL
It’s not easy to wear boys clothes and still look like the cutest girl on the block but she does it and very well might we add. There’s something about her signature suited look that makes her music even more enticing. Watch her music video for “Q.U.E.E.N.†and you’ll see what we mean.
4. MIGUEL ADORES HER AND ERYKAH BADU CAN’T STOP GOING ON AND ON
The girl knows how to belt out a tune on her own but adding guest vocals from Grammy Award-winning singer Miguel and R&B royalty Erykah Badu are icing on the cake.
5. BEWARE OF BOBBING HEADS AND SHOULDER SHAKES
Within seconds of putting on “Dance Apocalyptic” our body is moving uncontrollably. Her music makes a girl want to move her bootie, start the day, run the treadmill, hit the town… The list goes on. Can you tell we’re hooked?
